This is Alan Neale’s substack. My first posts will commemorate the work of Angela, my soulmate and wife, a second wave feminist for whom the personal was always political, and who remained radical to the end.
“When we are real, we are a real threat.”
- Angela Hamblin, Ultimate Goals (Women’s Liberation Review no 1, 1972)
A post recording Angela’s involvement in 1970s campaigns against rape and forced adoption will follow shortly. Subsequent posts will explore in more detail her role in securing the right of adult adoptees in England & Wales to access their birth records, and her challenge to the double standard that unjustly shamed single mothers.
After that, I’ll explore some related issues that that have surfaced in current debates - such as those around surrogacy, the gender industry, men and feminism, safeguarding, transhumanism, the commodification of nature, and climate breakdown.
The unifying theme will be the need to respect reality, and re-connect what patriarchal capitalism has dis-connected.
